Edison Township Municipal Court Welcomes New Judge Asma Warsi

The Edison Township Municipal Court has welcomed a new judge, Asma Warsi, who brings with her a wealth of experience in immigration law and legal services. Warsi's impressive career spans over two decades, during which she has worked for various organizations, including Catholic Charities of Metuchen and the Boaz Community Corporation.

Warsi earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in History and Middle Eastern Studies from Rutgers University in 1994, followed by a Master of Arts in Near Eastern Studies from New York University in 1998. She then went on to earn her law degree from the Rutgers University School of Law in 2000.

Before becoming a judge, Warsi had a successful career as an immigration law consultant for the Puerto Rican Action Board from 2012 to 2020. During this time, she worked tirelessly to provide legal services to clients and conducted outreach campaigns to educate social service providers about immigration law, family law, and the rights of victims.

Warsi also served as the executive director and director of legal affairs for the Boaz Community Corporation, a nonprofit legal services provider, from 2004. In this role, she represented clients on immigration matters, drafted briefs for the Appellate Division, responded to Habeas Corpus petitions, and prepared criminal complaints.

In addition to her work in immigration law, Warsi also worked as an assistant district attorney in the Bronx District Attorney's Office, where she gained valuable experience working in the Appeals Bureau. Her extensive background in both immigration law and prosecution has equipped her with a unique perspective that will undoubtedly serve her well as a judge.

Warsi is no stranger to Edison, having lived in the township for the past 19 years. She is excited to bring her expertise and passion for justice to the Edison Township Municipal Court, where she will work to ensure fairness and equality for all parties involved in the court system.
